ISO Property Protection Class Rating
Overview:
Florissant Fire Protection District (FFPD) was formed in 1997 when the Florissant/Divide Fire Protection District split into two separate organizations. Before that and now, the area has been served by volunteers since 1949. The current district coverage area is mountainous with grasslands and includes 66 square miles of Teller County, Colorado.
Florissant Fire Public Protection Classification Rating

This rating applies to all FFPD residents and business owners within five road miles of most FFPD stations. Please call to confirm your address rating: 719-494-3847.
Many homes in the district outside of 5 road miles from the above stations are still covered by the ISO 5 rating. Auto-aid agreements are in place to provide this coverage. If you have any questions about your rating, please call Chief John Buchan @ 719-494-3874 or email: chief.buchan@florissantfire.com
PPC Rating of 10: This rating applies to all FFPD residents and business owners outside five road miles of the above-mentioned fire stations, if auto-aid agreements are not in place for that specific location. This applies mostly to the far Northern end of Teller County.
Validating Fire Department Coverage:
Teller County
Numbers:
Florissant Fire currently runs out of 3 Fire Stations. The fleet consists of 4 Engines, 3 Tenders, 4 Brush Trucks, 1 Rescue, 3 Staff Vehicles and 1 Wildfire Trailer. We respond with 12,000 gallons of water on the first alarm, with extensive automatic aid agreements. The department is staffed by 1 full time fire chief and 35 volunteer emergency responders. We run 500 calls a year with an average response time of 9-12 minutes.
Water Supply Questions
Hydrants: within the district there are a few municipal hydrant locations. These all serve the Town of Florissant. Homes that are within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant or approved water source are automatically ISO Class 5.
Roads
All county and state approved and maintained roads are wildfire access/egress routes.
Cisterns, dry hydrants and other water sources
Florissant Fire has invested heavily into fire engines and water tenders to address our mountainous environment and limited water supply challenges. We feel confident that we have adequate water shuttle capabilities to handle most structural fire situations. We also supplement our abilities through the use of static water supplies such as cisterns . Homes that are within 1,000 feet of an approved cistern are automatically ISO Class 5.
The fire district maintains a small number of cisterns, mostly in the Colorado Mountain Estates Area. In addition, there are many other cisterns and water sources throughout the district we have access to. The majority of these water sources are privately owned, as such we are not able to report any data on these.
